WEN Hair Care System - The Dirt

In my entire life I have never been sucked in by an infomercial. I may have watched a few in my day and thought, "that sounds great" but never ventured father than that. Well, those days are gone! I couldn't resist temptation any longer and last week I ordered the WEN Hair Care System by Chaz Dean. Maybe it was the innocence on Chaz's face, those puppy dog blue eyes.....maybe it was the repetition of seeing women, one after the other get their hair washed and styled. Long hair, frizzy hair, curly, out of control hair, flat, color treated hair. Anyway, the point is I really thought the concept was logical and the deal was a price I could afford!
Within a week of ordering, I received my box of goodies. The box was a great introductory offer. Not only did I get the 16 oz. bottle of Cleansing Conditioner, but I also received the intensive treatment, the texture balm, styling creme and a large tooth shower comb. All for $29.95 + $3.90 in Canadian Sales Tax for a total of $33.85. Free shipping was included as well.
I couldn't wait until morning to try it out so I took a nice long bath that evening and followed the instructions for beautifying my dead, straw like, over processed locks! After using the cleansing conditioner with a dab of intensive treatment and leaving it in my hair for as long as possible, I rinsed and prepared to style using the styling creme.
I did notice my hair was fuller and softer after just one use. The only oddity for me is getting over the concept that shampoo should lather. This stuff does not. You are supposed to rinse your hair for at least two minutes with warmish water and then use an outrageous amount of cleansing conditioner. Even with the intensive treatment, you are supposed to mix it with the cleanser. The guidelines advised that for my short hair length, I should use 12 to 16 pumps! I used two and I certainly had enough to drench my hair with it. My hair is fine but I have a lot of it. In any event, my hair was full of products from the day. It was a very hot and humid day and I had used conditioner, argan oil styling creme, hair spray and some pure argan oil after styling, then a little more hair spray!
The commercial says that the more you use the products, the better your hair will be so I really wasn't ready to give an opinion as of yet. I also wanted to see if the results would be good using two pumps over time as opposed to the 12-16 as suggested. I mean, at that rate, I would be out of the stuff in a few days! Seriously!! The one catch that bothered me a little, but not enough to impair my ordering ability, was that I was automatically signed up to receive the products every 60 days. This time I would be charged delivery. Of course you can contact the company amd change the order or products to suit your fancy. I suppose it makes sense anyway. If you like it, you are going to want more, so why not automatically deliver? 60 days though? Like I said earlier, at the rate suggested to use the cleansing conditoner, it would be gone in a week! So I am a little confused with the plan!
I recieved a catalogue with my order and the products come in many different scents; Fig, Lavendar, Pomegranate and Tea Tree. I ordered the Almomd Mint.
After 3 days of using this system I am pleased with the results. Not enough however to indulge in ordering the same products again in 60 days. I may still want another conditioning cleanser in another scent, perhaps Fig, and this morning I used a little of my own conditioner after the rinse . I personally feel that yes, the stuff works...yes my hair is shinier and yes it's softer and yes it's fuller. By how much? Well enough that I will continue to use the products but not enough to want to only use the products. There are many really good conditioners out there and I have about six of them! Maybe I am still set in the old days of shampoo having a lather...maybe I need a lathering every few days! I would suggest you give this a try. I am also advising this after only 4 days of use. Maybe I should be using 16 pumps of product each morning!? In any event, this is good stuff. I really like the styling cream too. I find the cost a bit high, member price is $24.95 plus shipping costs to Canada. We will see how long the 16 oz bottle lasts me!
I am quite proud that I ventured out into the world of infomercials! I did a good job in waiting all these years and I am not dissapointed in my order at all. This product did what it said it would do. Finally marketing that is truthful... I personally think that for that price, I can get other great products too and I won't have to lock in to a purchase every few months. The cost of the products is higher if you are not a member. I have to honestly say that I will always have the WEN hair care system, for me though I will mix it up with the rest of my products! The issue for me is having to place an order to stay a member. I don't like that pressure. I did see a kit at my local mall being sold at a kiosk, I didn't price it out though. Perhaps I can change my order to one product every 3 or 4 months and that would suit me just fine!! Chaz, you rock! Thanks for fuller, softer, shinier hair!!

Lechat's Undercover Ultra Bond Basecoat - The Skinny

As a beauty blogger, I have quite the collection of make up and accessories, actually an absurd amount of eye liners, shadows, blush, lipstick, gloss and possibly even more nail polishes. I paint my nails daily and I really do find it relaxing and de-stressifying (is that even a word?) So I am confidently going to say that I am an expert when it comes to brands of polish. As any expert esthetician or manicurist will tell you, a base coat is imperative to a professional looking manicure. It extends the life of your polish and helps bond the polish to your nail. Chipping can be a problem as well, so a good top coat and base coat is the way to go. I cannot advise on the length of time a manicure lasts using this product as I change my polish every day. Once in a blue moon I may go two days before picking my polish off or removing it the normal way to try another shade! I have 5 base coats right now, China Glaze, OPI, Barielle, Nubar and Seche Vite. The newest edition to my base coat family is Undercover Ultra Bond Base Coat by Lechat.

I find that all of my base coats are very similar in texture. The closest one to Lechat I would say is the consistency of the OPI. The unique consistency of the Lechat product is extremely thin, which I really like. It almost feels like it is slightly rough even though it isn't (if that makes any sense!) It feels like it has tiny little fibres that aid in the adhering of the product. I am trying to say that it feels like it has very good adhesion qualities rather than being just a dull coat of polish. I find this product very good. It has now become my base coat of choice. Lechat has no formaldehyde and no toluene which is a benzene derivative and can be used as a solvent. I cannot stress enough how everything we ingest, put on our face by way of creams and make up and yes, even nail polish seeps into our bodies. Even the fumes from hair spray or nail polish can be hazardous to our health! So less is more when it comes to polish and the less unpronounceable words in the ingredients list the better!
Lechat also has a top coat and many products for nail art and design. If you check out their website, the vibe is more geared to professionals and less effort towards pleasing the average consumer, a no nonsense website! I give this product a 9/10, GlamGal's seal of approval! The best part about this product is the price! I paid $3.49 for the bottle.

This manicure is from Lechat's website. You can also find detailed instructions on this mani and many more on their site! This is art!

Glymm Review June 2012

My Glymm Beauty Box never dissapoints! I am so pleased with the each sample product and the full size lipstick/balm duo retails for $20.00. The cosmetic bag was blue this month and I felt so spolied using the natural creams and equisite perfume from Dali! Read on for details on all the products. All this for $12.00 a month. This is what I call quality, no large brand name companies here, high end and natural, unique beauty. I also really like that I can earn points towards purchases at the Glymm store and if I really like a product, it's just a matter of a click away and I can order it!!

If you are in Canada, definitely sign up for Glymm!!!

Eco-Beauty® Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Full Size: 18 pads/$9.99
Remove your nail polish in the most eco-friendly way possible. It does no harm to you or the planet, and it smells so delicious. Remove polish and condition all 10 nails with just one pad. This acetone-free nail polish remover is packed with aloe, glycerin and vitamin E to moisturize and natural Rosemary Horsetail Extract to keep your nails strong. As the smell of natural Tuscan orange fills the air, you’ll be elated to know that this product is free of harmful chemicals and uses the least amount of water possible – also, no need to rinse.

The nail polishe rempver pads from LA Fresh did have a unique and nice scent. The pads felt very different from acetone type removers. I almost didn't think it would remove any polish at all! The pad felt very dry and kind of oily. I used it to take off very thick polish from my toes. I had a coating of sparkle on my toes as well. The product certainly did the job and I only needed one pad to do it. I think I am used to acetone though. Sadly, this product took a bit more work that I am used to. If you are a Green friendly gal, these are for you!

It Is Dream by Salvadore Dali
Full Size: 60 ml/$54.00 This fragrance radiates romance, tenderness, optimism and joy. If you’re artistic and love to dream, then this is the fragrance for you. This scent has a fruity-floral-woody composition. Flowers symbolize a gentle feminity, fruits denote joy and a sparkling energy while the woody notes represent sensuality and deep emotions. The scent opens with fresh notes of grapefruit, black currant and apple. The heart features pink floral accords of rose, magnolia and hyacinth, while white cedar, amber and musk linger in the background.  SAMPLE USAGE: 35 Sprays

I am in love with the Dali scent. It's unique and fresh. I actually put it on before bed so I can smell myself to sleep!

You can read all about it above! This stuff is incredible. I noticed a softening and smoothness after two days of trying this oil. You only need a few drops and I put this on my face at night after cleansing when my skin was damp, it helped to spread the product around. As you can see by the ingedients, there isn't any long winded names of strange things in this product. Basically essential oils. Very natural and I would say could easily compete with any high end cream out there. This sample lasted quite awhile too, I am sorry to see it go. My face was really soft and locking in moisture is critical to healthy and happy skin! So kudos to this product!!
This luxurious face cream gently exfoliates and leaves the skin intensely moisturized. Glycolic Acid and Algae Extracts soften the appearance of fine lines, while Jasmine Absolute helps soothe and nourish stressed-out skin. The Glycolic Acid will tingle gently as it exfoliates and boosts your skin’s natural collagen production. Apply evenly to entire face once or twice a day. Follow with sunscreen (spf 15 or higher). Never apply this product to red or peeling skin. Clark’s Botanicals donates a portion of sales to The Christopher Reeve Foundation.
SAMPLE USAGE: 10-14 uses

I love this cream. It is rich enough that I feel the real benefits of moisture on my skin but it doesn't leave a coating of oil. It is actually light! It has a smoothing effect and I use products with Glycolic acid all the time so this was a great find. I will be looking into purchasing this particular cream. Full size (50 ml sells for $115.00)

Duo Lipstick:  Harmony Full Size: 3.4g/$20.00  Everything your lips need for a night: some balm and some colour in one lustrous package.  Not only will your lips feel their finest with this soothing formula, but they will look just as good with long-lasting colour. This eye-catching and plush applicator makes for a conversation piece, while its purpose is super convenient. You can bring any combination of colours with you to achieve the ultimate lip experience.

I like the idea of having a colour and a balm in one easy package. It's not much bigger than a normal lipstick so it fits nicely in my make up bag! I was lucky to get the shade "soft pink". I haven't had a chance to wear it out but is very moist and goes on well! I am not sure if you should use the balm separately or on top or under the colour?

Overall I am pleased with Glymm this month as always. I enjoy the make up bags but still miss the boxes!  Looking forward to July's beauty box and wonder what colour the next make up bag will be!

Glossy Box Review - June 2012

It is that time again, my Glossy Box arrived safe and sound this month. Another heavy package filled with goodies! I would have done this sooner but I didn't have a moment to myself! It has been a whirlwind few weeks and as much fun as it was, I miss the connection of my blogger buddies!! The good thing is that I have been able to use the products from the Glossy Box this month as I usually do the unboxing the day I receive the beauty box. This month I didn't get my Luxe Box from Loose Button as they changed up the format. I felt denied!! So I was extra thrilled when my Glossy Box arrived.

Here it is!!!  The classic pink box with logo. These boxes are so sturdy, I haven't decided what to do with all the boxes I have yet. I use two of them to store all the goodies I haven't used  and keep them on my dresser. I will go through them every week and see what I want to take out and use. I can't believe how much fun I find that! Crazy I know, I am just a sucker for beauty in general. I blame my Mom, she doesn't have half the stuff I do but she always had really nice make up and skin care products that I would play with as a young child.

Here is the full box of products. Three full size items adorn the box, Wella Ocean Spritz, Biore facial cleanser and of course the Venus razor.

Here is the Biore Skin Balancing Cleanser for combination skin, a full 200 ml. It retails for $9.99 This is a new product and I always like to try these things before the whole world! The Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips really works. You can feel the strip working it's way in to your pores and pulling out all the impurities. I wish there was two like on the package, but I liked it. This sells for $9.99 as well and you get 8 in a package. The cleanser is refreshing, when applying I feel like I am really cleaning my face. It doesn't strip my face of moisture. It doesn't feel all tight afterwards but my skin does feel clean. I like this product. I will have enough to last a long time, I like getting a full size product like this, I can really tell how effective it is for me and having enough of it to get an indication of it's benefits.

The one item I can't wait to really try is the Wella Ocean Spritz. The idea here is to dampen your hair with the product and then twist your hair up in a bun. Dry it with a diffuser and then let it out. Using your fingers, you create a textured, chunky look and your hair becomes matte. You are supposed to look like you were at the beach. What do you do if you don't have enough hair to wrap and twist? I don't have long enough hair to even put in an elastic at the moment. (I am not impressed with my latest haircut and that is why I have decided not to do my usual video review) Vein, I know....I did try this product, I actually really like it. I have curly hair and I straighten it, I was concerned that this spritz would wet my hair too much and cause the curl. It didn't. It gave my hair body and oomph...it really worked! I would use this spray and will. I may be buying this regularly. I would rather it not make my hair dullish and matte. I would prefer shine but I don't think kit would be as effective if that was the case. It's also great if you haven't washed your hair, it gives style to otherwise flat and dry hair. It sells for $16.99 for the 150 ml.
The Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Cream is a product I have had numerous times with other beauty boxes, it's nice, it works and smells ok. 30 ml for $30.99. I seem to get my Mom's as well from her boxes. I must have about ten of these!
A product I have not tried yet is the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sun Screen SPF 55. It contains Helioplex which is supposed to provide sustainable UVA/UVB protection. Full size 88ml sells for $15.99. I am going to give this stuff a whirl next weekend. I hope it is dry and not too greasy, that would be great, especially if you are at the beach as sand seems to love sticking to sunscreen.

Gillette Venus Embrace, 5 blades!!! Are you trying to scar me!! Maybe I am just a one blade kind of gal, I am not sure. This razor doesn't mess around. If you are coordinated and patient, this razor is for you. Sadly, I am neither so I find I nick myself and with this razor, I have 5 times better chance of cutting my shin and knees up! This bad boy retails for $13.43.

Cover Girl Flipstick, #855 in "Minx"....nice idea, two in one stick of colour. You have seen the commercial, blend, mix, create a nice shine and sparkle. Too bad this colour is not me. I repeat NOT for me. These shades are clearly for dark skinned ladies. I am quite fair. Was this the only colour offered to Glossy? I believe there was another shade sent out to other Glossy girls and too bad I didn't get a pink. From comments I have been reading on FB, not many women were impressed with this product. It was the shade and disappointment of not getting to try it. In a perfect world, Glossy would have looked at our profiles and selected the right shade and sent that to us. Whatever the case may be, I too was disappointed. Could this be used as an eye colour? A shiny, moist eye shadow? It didn't work for me, it just globbed in the crease of my eye. Well, at least I tried!! Funny how these colours look horrid on my lips but really nice on my eyes! 3.8 grams at $12.50. Let's be honest here, I will never be pleased with every product I get, the fun is in the element of surprise, getting to open the beautiful box and see the goodies. Considering the box cost me $15.00, I have done well!

Overall, a good box. Products this month I will call, necessities. This was my necessity box. Items you need but don't always like to buy for yourself.
So if you haven't made the leap yet and signed up for Glossy Box, go for it! It's always a great deal and you will always receive full size products and products that are new.
If you sign up, use the promo code GLOSSY14 at checkout. You will receive 10% discount on your first box. $15.00 a month, free delivery, taxes in!!!!
