WEN Hair Care System - The Dirt

In my entire life I have never been sucked in by an infomercial. I may have watched a few in my day and thought, "that sounds great" but never ventured father than that. Well, those days are gone! I couldn't resist temptation any longer and last week I ordered the WEN Hair Care System by Chaz Dean. Maybe it was the innocence on Chaz's face, those puppy dog blue eyes.....maybe it was the repetition of seeing women, one after the other get their hair washed and styled. Long hair, frizzy hair, curly, out of control hair, flat, color treated hair. Anyway, the point is I really thought the concept was logical and the deal was a price I could afford!
Within a week of ordering, I received my box of goodies. The box was a great introductory offer. Not only did I get the 16 oz. bottle of Cleansing Conditioner, but I also received the intensive treatment, the texture balm, styling creme and a large tooth shower comb. All for $29.95 + $3.90 in Canadian Sales Tax for a total of $33.85. Free shipping was included as well.
I couldn't wait until morning to try it out so I took a nice long bath that evening and followed the instructions for beautifying my dead, straw like, over processed locks! After using the cleansing conditioner with a dab of intensive treatment and leaving it in my hair for as long as possible, I rinsed and prepared to style using the styling creme.
I did notice my hair was fuller and softer after just one use. The only oddity for me is getting over the concept that shampoo should lather. This stuff does not. You are supposed to rinse your hair for at least two minutes with warmish water and then use an outrageous amount of cleansing conditioner. Even with the intensive treatment, you are supposed to mix it with the cleanser. The guidelines advised that for my short hair length, I should use 12 to 16 pumps! I used two and I certainly had enough to drench my hair with it. My hair is fine but I have a lot of it. In any event, my hair was full of products from the day. It was a very hot and humid day and I had used conditioner, argan oil styling creme, hair spray and some pure argan oil after styling, then a little more hair spray!
The commercial says that the more you use the products, the better your hair will be so I really wasn't ready to give an opinion as of yet. I also wanted to see if the results would be good using two pumps over time as opposed to the 12-16 as suggested. I mean, at that rate, I would be out of the stuff in a few days! Seriously!! The one catch that bothered me a little, but not enough to impair my ordering ability, was that I was automatically signed up to receive the products every 60 days. This time I would be charged delivery. Of course you can contact the company amd change the order or products to suit your fancy. I suppose it makes sense anyway. If you like it, you are going to want more, so why not automatically deliver? 60 days though? Like I said earlier, at the rate suggested to use the cleansing conditoner, it would be gone in a week! So I am a little confused with the plan!
I recieved a catalogue with my order and the products come in many different scents; Fig, Lavendar, Pomegranate and Tea Tree. I ordered the Almomd Mint.
After 3 days of using this system I am pleased with the results. Not enough however to indulge in ordering the same products again in 60 days. I may still want another conditioning cleanser in another scent, perhaps Fig, and this morning I used a little of my own conditioner after the rinse . I personally feel that yes, the stuff works...yes my hair is shinier and yes it's softer and yes it's fuller. By how much? Well enough that I will continue to use the products but not enough to want to only use the products. There are many really good conditioners out there and I have about six of them! Maybe I am still set in the old days of shampoo having a lather...maybe I need a lathering every few days! I would suggest you give this a try. I am also advising this after only 4 days of use. Maybe I should be using 16 pumps of product each morning!? In any event, this is good stuff. I really like the styling cream too. I find the cost a bit high, member price is $24.95 plus shipping costs to Canada. We will see how long the 16 oz bottle lasts me!
I am quite proud that I ventured out into the world of infomercials! I did a good job in waiting all these years and I am not dissapointed in my order at all. This product did what it said it would do. Finally marketing that is truthful... I personally think that for that price, I can get other great products too and I won't have to lock in to a purchase every few months. The cost of the products is higher if you are not a member. I have to honestly say that I will always have the WEN hair care system, for me though I will mix it up with the rest of my products! The issue for me is having to place an order to stay a member. I don't like that pressure. I did see a kit at my local mall being sold at a kiosk, I didn't price it out though. Perhaps I can change my order to one product every 3 or 4 months and that would suit me just fine!! Chaz, you rock! Thanks for fuller, softer, shinier hair!!

  2. thanks so much for the review! I am not usually sold on items sold on infomercials either but the more I watch Wen, the more convinced that I NEED that. I wouldn't like the automatic re-ordering feature of the product though. Think it would be too hard-sell.

  3. I tried a Wen sample I got from my New Beauty test tube and you're right, it was odd about the no-lather thing. I got tea-tree, which was ok, but I probably would have preferred one of the other scents. I too was using only a couple pumps - if I used what the bottle said I would have been totally out of it in a day! It was ok for me, but I just went back to regular shampoo as I really like the lather :)

    1. Hmmm....I didn't realize WEN was offering samples like that, nice! I will always have WEN in my bathroom but I am using it more as a conditioner. Thanks for your comment.
